You might know him as Leonidas, War Daddy, Fear the Beard, White Lightening, Wolverine, Spartan or his less popular name Nate Ebner but i know him as my boyfriend. I even have a few names for him myself.. My favorite is when he eats, I call him an Animal. ( picture me screaming at the top of my lungs " He's an animal!!")
He would be the first to tell you that he is a normal guy... Except for when it comes to his training. I witnessed first hand him spending hours in the gym working overtime training for his pro day but what might surprise you is how much time he spent focusing on his nutrition.
There were three major parts to Nate's nutrition.
Number one his supplements-the normal pre/post workout stuff listed below:
Pre workout
-Argenine
-Muscle Fuel
-Mass Impact (Creatine)
-Catalyst- BCAA
-Sparks
Post workout
-Post-Workout Recovery Protein (high carb and high protein)
-Muscle gain (low carb and high protein)
-Catalyst- BCAA
-Muscle Strength supp
Night time recovery
-Amino acids supp
-High Calorie protein drink
Energy
-Sparks
-Rehydrate
-BioTools- Helps decrease recovery time

In this strenuous training process getting sick comes on quick and fast. Nate knew he was vulnerable so he made sure he maintained good vitamin intake and made sure he got more than adequate sleep.. This means on Saturday we were in watching a movie not out at the bar scene.
Number three- nutrition from food
When someone is training this hard the amount of calories that need to be consumed is extreme. I'm talking 4500 to 6000. The goal is to keep the weight on and maintain your energy so eating is key.
It would be so easy to just pull into Wendy's everyday and grab something to eat. He was tired and he had school and homework on top of all of his training but he didn't give in. He planned all of his meals for each week and followed a very strict diet and supplement schedule... And this is where I came in.
As all of you know I love to cook and share my love and expertise about Nutrition. So I took the challenge to help Nate create a diet that was easy for him and healthy at the same time. So this is what he ate:
Breakfast-
Whole grain cereal
Yogurt
Fresh fruit
Eggs
Mid morning-
Pre and post workout supplements
Lunch-
Deli sandwich on whole grain bread (this was a struggle to get him to switch- he liked his white bread)
Fruit
Vegetables
Late afternoon-
Another sandwich or wrap with his supplements
Dinner- crock-pot chicken (http://healthtipsfromchelsey.blogspot.com/2012/03/best-and-easiest-way-to-make-chicken.html)
Or salmon ( I always got a call at night asking me how to cook the salmon because he forgot)
Quinoa or whole grain pasta (http://healthtipsfromchelsey.blogspot.com/2012/05/crazy-for-quinoa.html)
Steamed vegetables
Glass of milk
Once a week he would do spaghetti and meatballs or I would cook him dinner. Many times i would make him bulk chicken and quinoa so that he just had to heat it up during the weeks he was really busy. Quick and healthy. His favorite meal is chicken teriyaki with grilled pineapples and peppers on top of whole grain rice. Seriously it got to the point where I would be mad at him because every time I cooked him dinner he would want that! Like hello I have a blog posting all these different recipes and you want me to make you the same thing!!! Drove me nuts!
One thing that I am envious of is that Nate will eat anything. Hello he is an animal! I would make him this plain meal and he wouldn't add ketchup, salt, pepper, nothing. I am a flavor person so this amazed me. He was so concerned with getting energy that he would devour all of his food no complaints.
I also found Nate's one and only weakness.. Chocolate. Chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate chip pancakes, his favorite. But of course he kept this to a minimum during training because he wanted his calories coming from food with a good energy sources.
Anyways I can't take all the credit. His mom feeds him very well and always has. Nate has so much support coming from his friends and family and I know that also makes him stronger in all of this. Also Eric Lichter his trainer and directed him towards Advocare supplements that helped him get in the best shape he has ever been in in his life.
Pro day stats:
225 bench press- 23 reps
Vertical jump- 39.5 in
Broad jump- 10 ft 8 in
40 yard dash- 4.47 sec
L-drill- 6.25 sec
Short shuttle- 3.91 sec
Long shuttle- 10.9 sec
If you don't know yet, Nate got drafted in the 6th round and he is entering training camp this week. So everyone wish him luck and hopefully we will get to see the animal in action running down the field this fall season. ( and I'll be in the stands cheering him on). I'm sure there will be more nicknames to come!
