How to identify your Skin Type - THE TISSUE TEST
How to identify your Skin Type - THE TISSUE TEST
Wash your face with a neutral (not made for a particular skin type) soap or cleanser (such as Neutrogena for normal skin). Rinse with water. Pat try with a towel just enough to absorb moisture do not rub. Wait one hour, and then blot your entire face with one ply (or layer) of a large facial tissue. Press lightly all over your face and leave for about one minute. Then remove the paper carefully and examine it near a window or a light.
What do you see?
1. If you see oil throughout the tissue, you most likely have oily skin.
2.If you see oil only in the Tzone (across forehead, down nose and chin), you most likely have combination skin.
3. If you see very little oil throughout, you most likely have normal skin.
4. If you see no sign of oil at all, you most likely have dry skin.
5. If your skin feels irritated or slightly itchy, you most likely have sensitive skin.
You’ll need to perform this test several times a year-during spring, summer and winter because your skin changes with the seasons.

Healthy Skin - Fruits And Vegetables
Healthy Skin - Fruits And Vegetables
Smooth, healthy-looking skin can defy birthdays and speak volumes about a person’s well-being. When one feels vibrant and youthful, whatever their age, their skin reflects this inner glow. In fact, skin is the largest organ in the body, and the outer manifestation of how well one is taking care of him- or herself. Fruits and vegetables are both tasty and nutritious and have a very long history as beauty aids. Often they are mashed into a pulp and applied directly on the skin in the form of a natural facial.
1. Cucumber
Cucumber has a long folk history of use for cooling burns and treating wrinkles. Simply peel and crush some cucumbers in a blender and apply directly to the affected area. Cucumber slices can also be placed over the eyelids.
2. Carrot
Carrots are high in beta carotene which the body converts into vitamin A. A deficiency of this vitamin can cause dry skin and wrinkling. Carrots also contain the antioxidant beta-carotene and many other cancer-preventing compounds.
3. Purslane
Like carrots, purslane is rich in carotenoids. This herb can be used to make an invigorating face mask with healing properties.
4. Pineapple
Pineapples contain fruit acids called alpha-hydroxy acids that peel off dead skin cells by dissolving the substances that hold the dead skin together. These are used in face peels to treat acne, chapped skin, fine lines, and wrinkles.
5. Avocado
The oils in avacados are patented as a treatment for some forms of dermatitis and arthritis. Avocado oil is rich in vitamins A, D and E, all of which help maintain healthy skin.
6. Grapes
Grapes contain alpha-hydroxy acids, the substances that help peel dead skin cells from the face. Grapes can be mashed in a juicer and applied as a natural facial mask.
7. Papaya
Papaya’s enzymes help remove wrinkles when applied topically and can aid in digesting food when eaten.
8. Foods rich in nucleic acids
Foods rich in nucleic acids (RNA) such as sardines, salmon, tuna, shell fish, lentils, and beans may be helpful for skin problems.
9. Aloe vera juice
Aloe was used by Egyptian pharaohs to treat many skin problems. Aloe vera gel has been used to heal radiation burns since the 1930's.
10. Chamomile
Chamomile is a tasty tea approved in Europe for treatment of inflammatory skin conditions, notably yeast infections. Compounds in chamomile (bisabolol, chamazulene and cy-clic ethers) are anti-inflammatory, bactericidal and fungicidal. Chamomile can also be brewed and used as a compress.
11. Calendula
Calendula flowers are one of the best herbs for skin problems. Research shows that this herb is antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and antiviral. Calendula also stimulates white blood cells to help speed wound healing. Calendula flowers can be used to make a tea.
12. Ginkgo
Research shows that ginkgo biloba extract signals fibroblast activity in the skin to increase the synthesis of collagen, while serving as an anti -inflammatory agent.
13. Gotu kola
Gotu kola is an Indian herb that stimulates the regeneration of skin cells and underlying connective tissue.

Organic Skin Care
Organic Skin Care
The opinion on how-to (for personal skin care) differs from person to person. Some people believe that going to beauty parlours every other day is personal skin care. Others believe that personal skin care is just a matter of applying some cream or lotion on your skin, every now and then. Then there are people who think that personal skin care is an event that happens once a month or once a year. Still others busy themselves with ‘personal skin care’ all the time. However, personal skin care is not that complicated and neither is it that expensive (considering how beneficial it is). Personal skin care is following a routine or a procedure for attending to the needs of your skin.Even before you start with a routine, you need to determine your skin-type (oily, dry, sensitive, normal etc) and select the personal skin care products suitable for it (you might have to experiment with a few personal skin care products).
“If it can be done naturally, why go for artificial means” - this is the basic premise on which ‘organic skin care’ works. Organic skin care is the most natural way of ‘skin care’. In fact, ‘organic skin care’ was probably the first one to be used by man when it first woke-up to the needs of his skin. ‘Organic skin care’ is not only friendlier to skin, but also inexpensive. If exercised in the right way, organic skin care can prevent the occurrence of a lot of skin disorders and can help keep your skin healthy and young looking for a much longer time.
Organic fruits and vegetables are the most popular things on organic skin care routines e.g. cucumber is very common in organic skin care routines. Turmeric, apple, papaya, ginger are others that find a wide use in organic skin care routines. These organic materials have a very refreshing and vitalizing effect on your skin. So choose the ones that are more suitable for your skin type and start experimenting with them until you finally select the ones that are most suitable for inclusion in your organic skin care routine. It’s important that you use fresh organic fruits/vegetables. Don’t try to utilise the rotten ones for your skin, their only place is the garbage bin.
1. Milk is known to posses good cleansing properties; in fact, the name of some skin care products contains the word ‘milk’ in them. A combination of milk with ground oatmeal acts as wonderful cleanser.
2. Ground oatmeal is especially good for oily skins and is a popular ingredient in organic skin care regimen. It is used in various combinations e.g. with egg, honey, milk and fruits, for preparation of organic facial packs.
3. Wheat germ is another ingredient in organic skin care procedures. It is rich in vitamin E and is known for its exfoliation as well as moisturising properties. Wheat germ, in various combinations with other organic materials, is used to prepare facial masks for normal and dry skin types. Wheat germ oil is another way in which wheat germ is used for organic skin care.
4. Yogurt and sour cream are other organic materials that are popular for their exfoliation and moisturising properties.
5. Use of organic honey is also popular in organic skin care procedures. It helps in retention of moisture and helps impart a glowing look to skin.
6. Rose water takes its place as a toner in organic skin care routines. Lavender water is popular too.
7. ‘Organic skin care’ uses combinations of various organic materials that complement each other and enhance each other’s effectiveness. Moreover, these combinations are also helpful in over-riding the harmful effects (if any) of various organic materials that form them.
Organic skin care is really an art that, once perfected, can give wonderful results in a very cost effective manner.

10 Winter skin care tips
10 Winter skin care tips
The weather outside may be unsightly, but your skin doesn’t have to be. How to banish dry skin and give your winter skin care regimen a boost?. For many people, the cold clear days of winter bring more than just a rosy glow to the cheeks. They also bring uncomfortable dryness to the skin of the face, hands, and feet. For some people, the problem is worse than just a general tight, dry feeling: They get skin so dry it results in flaking, cracking, even eczema (in which the skin becomes inflamed).
Sound familiar? Read on.
1. Seek a Specialist
If you go to your local drugstore, you’ll be hard put to find a salesperson who can give you good advice. That’s why going to an aesthetician or dermatologist even once is a good investment.
2. Moisturize More
You may have found a moisturizer that works just fine in spring and summer, but as weather conditions change, so, too, should your skin care routine.
3. Slather on the Sunscreen
No, sunscreen isn’t just for summertime. Winter sun still damages your skin. Try applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen to your face and your hands (if they’re itching, cracking, sores, or even a flare-up of eczema .exposed) about 30 minutes before going outside.
4. Give Your Hands a Hand
The skin on your hands is thinner than on most parts of the body and has fewer oil glands. That means it’s harder to keep your hands moist, especially in cold, dry weather.
5. Avoid Wet Gloves and Socks
Wet socks and gloves can irritate your skin and cause
6. Hook up the Humidifier
Central heating systems (as well as space heaters) blast hot dry air throughout our homes and offices. Humidifiers get more moisture in the air, which helps prevent your skin from drying out.
7. Hydrate for Your Health
Not for Your SkinIf you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a thousand times: Drinking water helps your skin stay young looking.
8. Grease up Your Feet
Yes, those minty foot lotions are lovely in the hot summer months, but during the winter, your feet need stronger stuff. Try finding lotions that contain petroleum jelly or glycerin instead.
9. Pace the Peels
If your facial skin is uncomfortably dry, avoid using harsh peels, masks, and alcohol-based toners or astringents, all of which can strip vital oil from your skin. Instead, find a cleansing milk or mild foaming cleanser, a toner with no alcohol, and masks that are “deeply hydrating,” rather than clay-based, which tends to draw moisture out of the face.
10. Ban Superhot Baths
Sure, soaking in a burning-hot bath feels great after frolicking out in the cold. But the intense heat of a hot shower or bath actually breaks down the lipid barriers in the skin, which can lead to a loss of moisture. You’re better off with just warm water, and staying in the water a shorter amount of time.
Tips for winter skin
Tips for winter skin
Exfoliate regularly
In the winter skin tends to be dull, exfoliating removes dead skin cells, helping to reveal a healthy and radiant glowing skin.
Apply a lip balm
In the same way facial skin is sensitive to winter conditions, so too are the lips. Don’t forget to frequently apply a lip balm to moisturise and protect them.
Protect your skin from UV rays
It is a common misconception that it’s unnecessary to wear sun protection when it’s cloudy or cold outside, however your skin can still be damaged by UV rays in these conditions.
Use a mild cleanser
If you already have dry skin, during winter it is recommended using a creamy milk cleanser to avoid additional drying through the use of a foaming cleanser.
Drink water frequently
Hydration from the inside is one of the most important things you can do for your skin during cold & warm weather.
