EARACHE, DEAFNESS, INFECTION AND SOFTENING OF THE WAX

EARACHE, DEAFNESS, INFECTION AND SOFTENING OF THE WAX
1. Pain in the ears is usually caused due to -Impacted wax;
2. Entry of some foreign body into the ear;
3. Due to an infection in the ear, nose or throat;
5. Due to some pressure changes when traveling in an airplane or in swimmers.

Children tend to be the usual sufferers because they commonly tend to suffer from respiratory tract infections and also because their Eustachian tubes are short and immature and thus the infection spreads easily. These can lead to severe infection and permanent damage if left untreated and thus should always be investigated by a doctor immediately. When a person complains of earache, ask him to sit propped up, stay away from wind and draft of cold air and apply a warm compress or indirect heat over the part (like through a hair drier or by application of a towel wrung out of hot water and pressed against the ear), or chew some gum and sip fluids to help open up the Eustachian tube and thus relieve the pain. It is important not to put anything into the ear unless and until a doctor ensures you that the eardrum is intact.

SOME HOME REMEDIES
WARNING:  Do not put any ear drops in the ear (allopathic, homoeopathic or home remedies mentioned below), if the ear drum is ruptured as this can cause severe complications.

Apricot - oil of apricot seeds is very effective in treating earache. Put 2-3 drops of oil in the ear that is paining. Earache will stop.

Betel leaf (pan) - The juice of fresh betel leaves is extracted and 2-3  drops are put in the painful ear to relieve earache.  This also helps in treating ear infection.

Bishop's weed (ajwain)-Ajwain possesses pain killing property and is very beneficial in treating earache. Take half teaspoonful of ajwain seeds and boil them in half cup of milk. Boil them till the essence of the seeds permeates the milk, then strain and use this milk as eardrops. It decreases congestion and relieves earache.

Bitter gourd (karela) - Cut two karelas lengthwise in small pieces and boil  them in mustard oil till the pieces turn into ash or black. Strain the oil and store in a bottle. Put 2-3 drops in the ears daily. Do this for a few weeks. The hearing will improve.

Black pepper - Soak a piece of cotton in oil and then sprinkle it with black pepper and place it over the ear.  This will bring instant relief to ear pain.

Bottle gourd (lauki) - Take the stalk of bottle gourd, crush it and extract the juice. Put 2-3 drops of this in the painful ear. The earache will stop immediately.

Breast milk - Instilling a few drops of breast milk is considered the best treatment in small children to treat mild earache.

Castor oil - A few drops of warm castor oil (arandi) or honey can be put in the ear to treat earache.

Clove (laung / lavang) - Heat 2-3 cloves in two teaspoonfuls of sesame oil. Then put a few drops of this warm oil in the painful ear. This will cure earache.

Garlic - Crush 2-3 cloves of garlic and heat them in some sesame oil or coconut oil till they turn brown. Do not use groundnut oil. Cool and strain. Put 2-3 drops of this oil in the painful ear. The earache will be cured. This will also benefit if there is pus oozing out from the ears. It also helps treat atonic deafness.

To treat earache and discharge from the ear arising from middle-ear infection, take a few cloves of garlic and crush them. Mix some rock salt in it and warm the mixture. Wrap this mixture in a muslin cloth and place it on the painful ear.  Simultaneously, chew 2-3 cloves of garlic daily for a few days.

To treat deafness, extract the juice of a few cloves of garlic and put 4-5 drops in the affected ear twice a day.

Ghee - Boil ghee and camphor (kapoor) and store it in a bottle. Whenever there is earache, warm it and put 2 – 3 drops in the painful ear with the help of a clean dropper. This will cure the earache.

Ginger - Freshly extracted ginger juice, about one tablespoonful, with an addition of a pinch of rock salt is filtered and then used as ear drops (2-3 drops) to relieve earache and inflammation.

Holy basil (tulsi) - Put 2-3 drops of juice of fresh tulsi leaves in the ear that is paining. Warm the juice slightly before putting it in the ear. This will bring relief to the earache and also cure any mild ear infection.

Honey - Honey is highly beneficial in the treatment of middle ear infection or infection of 'Otitis Media'. This disease is characterized by infection of the ear leading to pus discharge through perforated eardrum. Put 2 - 3 drops  of honey in the infected ear. This will drain out the pus and will help the ear to heal fast.

Linseed oil (alsi ka tel) - If the ears are paining,  put 2-3 drops of linseed oil in the ears with the help of a dropper. The earache will be cured.

Margosa (neem - bitter) - Margosa leaves are known to possess pain-killing property and steam fomentation of neem decoction brings quick relief to earache. Boil a handful of neem leaves in one litre of water and foment the painful ear with the steam that is emitted. This will give relief to earache.

To treat  boils in the ear, mix fresh juice of neem leaves with equal quantity of honey and warm it a little. Put a few drops in the ear that has boils. Do this regularly and it will bring relief to the boils. Margosa (neem) oil is also a useful instillation for inflammation and pain in the ears.

Mint (pudina) - Put 2-3 drops of juice of mint leaves in the ears to cure any sort of ear infection.

Olive oil – Warm a little Verbascum or olive oil and put 2-3 drops in the  painful  ear, this will help ease the pain and also soften the wax and aid its easy removal.

Onion - Take some raw onion juice and warm it. Put 2-3 drops in the ear that is paining. Do this twice a day. This will relieve the earache and also cure any sort of ear infection or ear inflammation. It is also beneficial if there is pus in the ears. It also loosens the wax in the ears, which can then be easily removed.

Poppy seeds (khus khus) - To treat inflammation of the ears, apply a paste of poppy seeds around the painful ear. It will bring relief.

Radish (mooli) - Mix the juice of radish leaves with sesame oil in equal quantities. Boil this mixture till only the oil is left in the pan. Cool it, filter it and store it in a glass bottle. Whenever there is pain in the ears, put 2-3 drops in the painful ear after warming it slightly. The earache will be cured.

Sesame oil (til ka tel) - Warm some  sesame oil  along with a couple of garlic cloves and put 2-3 drops in the ears. This will soften the wax in the ears, which can then be easily cleaned. This is also beneficial in treating earache.Drink a lot of water and increase the intake of dates, figs (anjeer) and fresh fruit juices.  This helps treat All these items should be put together.

HOME REMEDIES TO ARREST THE SECRETION OF MILK

HOME REMEDIES TO ARREST THE SECRETION OF MILK

In cases where the mother suffers from certain illnesses that can be transferable to the child through breast milk, it is better to put t he child off breast milk. Arresting the secretion of milk in such a mother is of prime importance. The following are some of the measures that can be used:

1. To check  excessive secretion of milk, apply a paste of turmeric and dhatoora (thorn apple) leaves for thirty minutes over the breasts.

2. Apply layers of hot betel leaves over the breasts for 10-15 minutes twice a day for a few weeks.

HOME REMEDIES TO IMPROVE THE FLOW OF MILK

HOME REMEDIES TO IMPROVE THE FLOW OF MILK

The usual causes of decreased milk secretion are-stress, emotional disturbances, worries, lack of sleep, etc. The following are some of the home remedies that help to promote the secretion of milk from the mammary glands in a nursing mother:
1. Alfalfa-Alfalfa is taken as sprouts or in tea or the juice of fresh leaves of alfalfa is taken with carrot juice, half cup daily in the morning.

2. Almonds-Eating four almonds in the morning that have been soaked overnight helps to improve the flow.

3. Amaranth -Mix amaranth , black gram dal (urad dal) and parsley, 25 gms each, soak them in water for a couple of hours and grind the mixture into a paste. Have one tablespoonful of this paste daily to increase the flow.

4. Aniseed-Aniseed, also known as velaiti saunf or anisi is taken on an empty stomach. Soak 10 gms of anisi in a glass of water overnight. Have this water along with the seeds the next morning.

5. Bitter gourd (karela)-Prepare a paste from leaves of bitter gourd (karela) and apply it over the breasts overnight, or, if possible, throughout the day. Use fresh leaves every day.

6. Brewer's yeast-This is an excellent milk -producing food and is also a rich source of high-quality protein.

7. Cottage cheese (paneer)-Cottage cheese, especially the homemade ones, and fresh milk is also a rich source of protein and calcium.  This enhances the production of high quality breast milk.

8. Dill leaves (sowa bhaji) / Dill seeds (anethum sowa)-A handful of leaves or seeds are boiled in two cups of barley (jau) water and drunk daily.

9. Long pepper (lindi peepar)-Hot milk with half teaspoonful of both powdered long pepper (pipli) and powdered black pepper is given at bedtime.

10. Muskmelon (kharbooja/shakkar teti)-Have half a muskmelon daily with lunch.

11. Papaya-Eat half raw papaya daily with breakfast.

12. Potato-Whole potatoes, baked or roasted in their skins should be included in the daily diet.

13. Sesame seeds (til)-These are a potential source of calcium, thus useful for lactation.

14. Eat plenty of whole-grain cereals, fruits and fruit juices (especially apple and grape juice), dark leafy vegetables like turnip, dandelion and collard greens,  endive, watercress (jalkumb), Brussel sprouts, broccoli and carrots, all these are useful when taken by the nursing mother.

ADVANTAGES OF BREAST FEEDING AND WEANING

ADVANTAGES OF BREAST FEEDING AND WEANING
International Breastfeeding Symbol
"Breast feeding" is an art and a skill and is far more superior to artificial bottle-feeding or feeding the baby with baby foods. The babies should be put on breast milk only. They should be breast-fed for a period of atleast six months and then for the next six months other food items can be included in the babies diet along with breast-feeding. Babies should be put on breast milk within an hour after its birth. A newborn must get the meuconium -the thick, yellowish breast milk, rich in vitamins, especially vitamins A and K and is also rich in many antibodies and other factors that protect the child against life-threatening infections. Though the meuconium is secreted in a small amount in the first few days after birth, it is enough to meet all the needs of the newborn.

Keep your baby close to you immediately after birth. This tends to improve and increase the closeness between the mother and the child. Assuming the right position during breast-feeding is of utmost importance. The baby should be facing the breast directly, with its tummy touching the mother's and then ask the mother to make a 'V' with her fingers around the nipples and angle it up slightly. Then stroke the baby's cheek to make him open his mouth and then pull him in rapidly, thrusting the entire nipple and one-fourth to half an inch of the areola into his mouth. Use both the breasts during a feed and let your baby suckle in as much as it wants. Do not force in anything. Artificial feeding or bottle-feeding are better avoided since the chances of spreading the infection are more, thus leading to some serious illness.

From sixth month onwards, continue the breast-feeding but add the following foods as advised:

1. Start boiled and cooled water with a small glass. No need to use bottle at any age.

2. The best substitute for mother's milk and the best supplementary food is fresh fruit juice, especially grape and orange juice. Fruit juice and breast milk should be given at different times.

3. Never give the baby artificial baby food as it is dead food and is best avoided.

4. A quarter banana or stewed apple can be mashed and given to the baby and increase the quantity by a quarter every succeeding week. Other seasonal fruits like pears (boiled), papaya, mango, chickoo, etc. can also be given.

5. Porridge can be added to the baby's diet after a week of starting the fruits.

6. Home made suji kheer (rava kheer); thin sheera with ghee; dalia from broken wheat or ragi (nachni); soaked bread in milk or mashed boiled rice with milk should be preferred to readymade cereals.

7. A highly nutritious recipe can be made by roasting, grinding and mixing equal parts of rice, wheat, ragi and moong dal. The mixed powder is stored in an airtight container. This readymade powder can be used for making thin kheer with milk and sugar or thin sheera with ghee and sugar (or salt). One to two teaspoonfuls are given twice a day after a breast-feed, in the morning and evening. Keep increasing the amount every third or fourth day as required by the baby.

8. Soft-boiled egg can be added a week later for those who eat eggs. Start with a teaspoonful of the yellow portion and slowly increase the amount by teaspoonful increments adding the white of eggs so that the baby may use the whole egg in about four weeks from the commencement.

9. Add mashed and well-cooked vegetables (dark green leafy vegetables, carrots and pumpkin are preferable items) a week later. Begin with two to four teaspoonfuls and increase progressively.

10. Then after another week or two, add mashed and well-cooked khichri or rice and dal. Begin this with two to four teaspoonfuls and then increase the quantity accepted by the baby.

11. After one year, mother's milk can be continued and cow's or buffalo's milk, though not essential, can be given from a glass two times daily.

12. Gradually let the child get used to the adult food made at home. Children who do not eat enough at a time should be offered food and fruits every two to three hours, but do not force.

ADVANTAGES OF BREAST FEEDING
a. A baby needs the feeling of warmth, closeness and security of the mother's body, and this is available through the act of breast-feeding.

b. Breast-fed babies have a better immunity than bottle-fed babies and are thus less susceptible to infections of any kind. This is because mother's milk directly supplies the antibodies necessary to fight the infections.

c. Breast milk is digested and assimilated better than cow's milk. Breast-fed babies thus have much lesser frequency of digestive disorders and nutritional deficiencies.

HOW TO PREVENT AN INFESTATION OF PARASITES?

HOW TO PREVENT AN INFESTATION OF PARASITES?

1. Make a mixture of one part cinnamon (tuj) oil, one part Tea Tree oil, one part Eucalyptus oil with three parts of almond oil and take four drops once a day.

2. One to two teaspoonfuls of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water or juice or  in your salad dressing are very effective against the worms and scavengers.

3. Pumpkin seeds are known to keep the worms away. Two ounces of pumpkin seeds are scalded and the outer skin is peeled off and the inner green pulp is mixed with cream or milk and taken like porridge. Take this in the morning after twelve hours fasting and this is then followed in two hours by castor oil (arandi). This may be repeated in a week or so if necessary.

4. Garlic is also useful as a worm destroyer.

5. A diet high in carbohydrates and low in protein has been found to make parasitic infections worse. When the body is in an alkaline condition the parasitic infection sets in. It is best to keep the diet slightly acidic (by using apple cider vinegar and cranberry juice) both as a preventive measure and when treating the infection.

6. Foods to 'add' to diet are – pumpkin seeds; Calmyrna Figs (the tiny seeds tear the skin of the worms); garlic; apple cider vinegar; cranberry juice and pomegranates (anar). Foods to 'avoid'  are raw  or  undercooked beef, pork, fish and chicken; sugars and carbohydrates; mountain water; water chestnuts and watercress (jalkumb) and fruits or vegetables that are unwashed or washed in questionable water.

CRACKS ON THE SOLES OF THE FEET

CRACKS ON THE SOLES OF THE FEET

The skin of the soles can crack when they dry up and leave painful slits that occasionally bleed if the cracks are deep. These cracks are ugly to look at. The cracks usually occur on the heel and between the toes and if the spot gets infected, they become very painful and suppurate. Women who wear open-backed high-heeled shoes and those who walk bare feet throughout the day are more prone to these kinds of cracks.

HOME REMEDIES
1. Soak the feet in warm water twice daily for twenty minutes and then pat them dry.
2. The soles are massaged with sesame or castor oil (arandi) and hot water fomentation is done.
3. Oil from the shell of cashewnut is applied locally.
4. Juice of unripe mango or mango leaves is used as a dressing.

Health Benefits of Mushrooms

Health Benefits of Mushrooms
Mushrooms have been used as medicines by humans for 5,000 years or more. As you will see, many mushrooms have properties that can improve your health and well-being. These eight healing mushrooms: maitake, reishi, shiitake,Cordyceps sinensis, Agaricus blazei, Phellinus linteus, Trametes versicolor, and Hericium erinaceus, as well as recent findings on additional mushrooms. It explains how ancient peoples used these mushrooms and the promise they bring for healing and preventing illness in the modern world. Mushrooms are the fleshy and edible fruit bodies of several species of fungi.

Mushrooms are making their mark. Contrary to their simple appearance, fresh mushrooms have a whole lot going for them. Fresh mushrooms are nutritious - low in fat and sodium and contain many important nutrients. More and more, mushrooms are becoming the focus of scientific studies exploring their health benefits. Currently, researchers are investigating mushrooms and many health issues including cancer prevention, immune function, diet satiety and weight management.  Here are some of the highlights: Antioxidants: Fresh mushrooms contain a powerful antioxidant called l-ergothioneine. Ergothioneine is found in both raw and cooked mushrooms.  Portabella and crimini mushrooms have the most, followed by white button mushrooms.

1. Cancer-fighting: Fresh mushrooms offer nutrients such as beta-glucans and conjugated linoleic acid, compounds that are currently being studied for their chemopreventive potential. Recent research suggests that mushrooms and mushroom extracts may have potent anticancer activity, for both breast and prostate cancer.

2. Essential Nutrients: A 100 gram serving of uncooked, sliced fresh mushrooms has only 22 calories, no cholesterol, is virtually fat-free, is low in sodium and has 1 gram of fibre. They are a good source of riboflavin and a source of copper, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, niacin and pantothenic acid. Along with serving up great taste, fresh mushrooms also make an important contribution to daily intakes of folate, thiamin, vitamin B6, iron, magnesium and zinc.

3. Fibre: Mushrooms offer both soluble and insoluble fibre, which may have anti-cancer properties as well as promoting satiety and good bowel health.

4. Immunity: Emerging research indicates that certain mushroom extracts, such as beta-glucans, may have a positive effect on the immune system.

5. Weight management: Fresh mushrooms are a low-energy-dense food, meaning you can eat more of them without expanding your waistline.

6. Good for cardiovascular health:Besides having minimal sodium, mushrooms are rich in potassium. Portabella mushrooms are specifically one of the best sources of potassium. You can also get twenty to forty percent of your daily copper requirement, from a single serving of mushroom. Both potassium and copper are essential for our cardiovascular health.

7. Anti-aging property: Mushrooms contain ergothioneine, an antioxidant necessary for healthy eyes, kidney, bone marrow, liver and skin. Mushrooms are also rich in riboflavin and selenium. These chemicals by strengthening the immune system, prevents the action of free radicals in the body, consequently reducing the aging process.

Healing Power of Colours Part II

Healing Power of Colours Part II
The action and effect of various colours on the body and their healing qualities are as follows :
Red :
Symbolic of heat, fire and anger. It is a stimulating and energising colour. It stimulates arterial blood and brings warmth to cool extremities. Used as a general tonic, it is very valuable in the treatment of diseases like low blood pressure, rheumatism, paralysis, anaemia and advanced cases of tuber- culosis.
Orange :
Symbolic of prosperity and pride, orange is useful for stimulating blood supply and energising the nerves. It is beneficial in the treatment of kidney and gall stones, hernia and appendicitis. It is also used to stimulate the milk producing action of breasts after childbirth.
Violet :
Violet is beneficial in the treatment of nervous and emotional disturbances, arthritis, acute cases of consumption and insomnia.
Yellow :
Associated with joy and happiness, yellow is laxative and diuretic. It is a stimulant to the brain, the liver and the spleen. It is also effective in the treatment of diabetes, indigestion, kidney and liver disorders, constipation, eye and throat infections, syphillis and impotence.
Purple :
Purple or indigo combines the blood-warming red and the cooling antiseptic blue. It is an excellent stimulant without being an irritant. It is beneficial in the treatment of advanced stages of constipation, hydrocle , leucorrhoea, many disorders of the stomach and womb , cataract , migraine and skin disorders. It exerts a soothing effect on the eyes, ears and the nervous system.
Green :
Made up of the blue and yellow, green is regarded as a colour of harmony. It is a mild sedative. It is useful in the treatment of nervous conditions, hay fever, ulcers, influenza, malaria , colds, sexual disorders and cancer. It preserves and strengthens eyesight. Being highly medicinal and depressive, it is of great help in the treatment of inflammatory conditions.
Blue :
Cool, soothing and sedative, blue alleviates pain, reducing bleeding and heals burns. It is beneficial in the treatment of dysentery, colic, asthma, respiratory disorders, high blood pressure and skin aberrations. IN a study at the New England State Hospital in the United States, 25 members of staff with normal blood pressure were bathed in blue light for half an hour. It resulted in universal fall in blood pressure. The blood pressure rose when red light was applied.

Methods of Treatment
There are two methods of treating diseases by colour :
By the application of light through different coloured glasses ; and i.  By external or internal use of colour-charged water. In the first method , sheets of glass, 30 cms. X 36 cms. of the required colours are needed. These are placed at the window frames or any other convenient place in such a way that the sun’s rays can pass through them and fall directly on the patient’s body. The usual duration of the colour treatment is 30 minutes. In case of local application, a pane of glass can be placed in front of the diseased part so that the light passing through the glass falls on the afflicted area. At night lanterns can be used for the purpose. A single lantern can have glass panes of four different colours and the required colour can be focussed on the patient or the affected parts.

In the second method, coloured bottles are needed. These bottles should be cleaned and filled up to three-fourths level with fresh well water, distilled water or rain water. The bottles should be corked and then placed in bright sunlight for three to four hours. After this exposure, the water is said to acquire medicinal properties and this colour charged water can be used both internally and for external applications. Wounds and ulcers can be washed with this water and it can also be used to massage the affected parts or applied as compress on them. For internal use, an adult can take 30 ml. of colour-charged water as a single dose. The dose can be repeated as required.
ii.

Diet
A correct and balanced diet is essential during the treatment of diseases through chromotherapy. The patients should take food items with analogous colouring. The various colours contained in different food items are :
Red : Beets, radish, red cabbage, tomatoes, watercress, most red-skinned fruits, red berries and water melon.
Orange : Orange-skinned vegetables and fruits such as carrot, orange, apricot, mango, peach and pappaya.
Violet : Egg plant, berries, black carrot and purple grapes.
Yellow : Lime and lemon, sweet lime, grapes, pumpkin, melon, banana, mango, yellow apple and guava.
Purple : Foods having both blue and violet colouring.
Green : Most of the green vegetables and fruits such as gourds, spinach, plantain, lettuce, pea, green mango, gooseberry, pears, beans , etc.
Blue : Blue plum, blue beans, blue grapes, etc.

Contraindications
There are some important contraindications to colour treatment which should be borne in mind while adopting this mode of cure. For instance, the red colour would be injurious in a naturally inflammatory condition of the system, and in case of persons with feverish and excitable temperament. If the red light is employed for too long and frequently, it may produce dangerous fevers. The danger can be obviated by using the red light for a few minutes at a time or by placing a wet bandage over the head.

Similarly, yellow should not be used when the nerves are very active or irritable. Yellow or orange reddish tones may prove injurious in fevers, acute inflammations, delirium, diarrhoea, neuralgia, palpitation of the heart and any condition of over excitement. In cases of paralysis, chronic rheumatism, gout, consumption and in all cold, pale and dormant conditions of the system, blue, indigo and violet may prove too cooling and constricting and should be avoided.

Healing Power of Colours Part I

Healing Power of Colours Part I
Chromotherapy is a method of treatment of diseases by colour. It is best used as a supportive therapy along with other natural methods of preserving health such as correct diet, adequate rest and relaxation, exercise, yogic asanas and so on.

According to practitioners of chromotherapy, the cause of any disease can be traced to the lack of a particular colour in the human system. Colour therapy is a technique of restoring imbalance by means of applying coloured light to the body. It was a popular method of cure even in ancient times. Some 2,500 years ago, Pythagoras applied colour light therapeutically and ‘colour halls’ were used for healing in ancient Egypt, China and India.

The pioneer of modern colour therapy was Niels Finsen of Denmark. Following the discovery, in 1877, of the bactericidal action of solar ultra-violet energy,Finsen studied the possibility of assisting the healing of wounds with visible light. He subse- quently used red light to inhibit the formation of smallpox scars and, in 1896, founded a Light Institute ( now the Finsen Institute of Copenhagen) for the phototreatment of tuberculosis. In 1932, Gerrard and Hessay, two Californian psychologists, scientifically established that blue light had a calming effect and red a stimulating power on human beings.

Blue and red colours are considered at the two extremes with yellow representing the midpoint. These are also the three principal colours in a rainbow. A patient is first subjected to an examination to ascertain which colour he lacks. The deficiency is determined by observing the colour of the eyeballs, nails, urine and excrement. In cases of the lack of red the eyes and nails will be bluish, and the urine and excrement white or bluish. If there is a deficiency of the blue colour, the eyes and nails will be reddish and urine and excrement yellowish or red. Every substance on earth contains colour. Even the rays cast on earth by celestial bodies contain colour in the form of white light. The rays of the sun contain seven different colours - violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. These are natural colours which are highly beneficial to the maintenance of health and for healing diseases.

According to Dr. Babbit, a well-known authority on chromotherapy, "sunlight is the principal curative agent in nature’s laboratory and where light cannot enter, disease does. Chlorosis, anaemia, leukaemia, emaciation, muscular debility, degeneration of heart and liver, dropsical effusion, softening of bones, nervous excitability, physical deformity, stunted growth and consumption are the result of excluding oneself from the beneficial effects of sunlight. " Sunlight plays an important role in the recovery from chronic diseases. Judicious use of sunlight can be part of the curing process in almost every affliction. The rays of the sun improve digestion and nutrition, quicken blood and lymph circulation and increase the elimination of impurities through the skin.

Prevention of Foot Odor

Prevention of Foot Odor
What is Foot Odor?
Foot odoris best described as type of body odor that affects the feet and gives off an unpleasant smell. Foot odor affects millions of people. Some people may develop extreme foot odor which is a condition known as bromhidrosis and may be influenced by various factors which include excessive sweating(hyperhidrosis), hormonal changes, stress, certain foods or drugs.

Foot odor often occurs because feet sweat from wearing socks and being enclosed in shoes. Feet have more sweat glands than any other part of the body and as a result they can sweat excessively because of the lack of air ventilation. This excessive sweating creates a breeding ground for bacteria and fungus which causes the foul odor.

Tips to prevent Foot Odor

1. Wash your feet daily in warm water with an antibacterial soap and dry them thoroughly, especially between the toes.

2. Change your socks and shoes at least once a day.

3. Apply an antiperspirant, foot powder, foot spray or foot creams to your feet every morning to keep them dry.

4. Wear thick, cotton or wool socks to help absorb moisture avoid synthetic fabrics such as nylon and polyester.

5. Insert insoles in your shoes as they not only absorb the unpleasant odor but also give off a lovely fragrance.

6. Avoid wearing shoes made of plastic, instead opt for shoes made of canvas, mesh or leather that will allow feet to breathe.

7. If you have worn the same shoes all day and they become moist or wet inside, allow them to dry completely before wearing them again coat them with talcum powder or stuff them with newspaper.

8. Soak your feet in a tub of apple cider vinegar or strong tea as the tannins in the tea will eliminate the odor .

9. Dust your feet frequently with a nonmedicated baby powder or foot powder. Applying antibacterial ointment also may help.

10. Wear thick, soft socks to help draw moisture away from the feet. Cotton and other absorbent materials are best.

11. Avoid wearing nylon socks or plastic shoes. Instead, wear shoes made of leather, canvas, mesh or other materials that let your feet breathe.

These preventive measures also can help prevent athlete's foot, which can flourish in the same environment as sweaty feet.

Persistent foot odor can indicate a low-grade infection or a severe case of hereditary sweating. In these cases, your doctor may prescribe a special ointment. You apply it to the feet at bedtime and then wrap your feet with an impermeable covering such as kitchen plastic wrap.

Soaking your feet in strong black tea for 30 minutes a day for a week can help. The tannic acid in the tea kills the bacteria and closes the pores, keeping your feet dry longer. Use two tea bags per pint of water. Boil for 15 minutes, then add two quarts of cool water. Soak your feet in the cool solution. Alternately, you can soak your feet in a solution of one part vinegar and two parts water.

A form of electrolysis called iontophoresis also can reduce excessive sweating of the feet, but requires special equipment and training to administer. In the most severe cases of hyperhidrosis, a surgeon can cut the nerve that controls sweating. Recent advances in technology have made this surgery much safer, but you may notice compensatory sweating in other areas of the body afterwards.

Health Benefits of Fenugreek

Health Benefits of Fenugreek
The health benefits of fenugreek (trigonella foenum-graecum) are so many that it's a great idea to consume these regularly for maintaining good health. Fenugreek is supposed to have originated in eastern Europe and Ethiopia. Fenugreek has been used since ancient times as food as well as medicine by the Egyptians and Asians. Today, it's grown around the Mediterranean, Argentina, Egypt, France, and all over India.

Fenugreek is an annual herb that grows 1-2 feet tall and has small, oval leaves, and small pods which contain the seeds. These are small, hard, and ochre yellow. Fenugreek is very easy to grow in mild climates. Sow the seeds, place in a sunny area, water regularly, and watch the herbs grow.

Fenugreek leaves (methi saag, methi, menthi koora) are a popular vegetable in India. Fenugreek seeds are an essential ingredient in curry powder and other masalas used in Indian food, and both the leaves and seeds have a pronounced aroma. The leaves and seeds have a bitter taste and hence often used in combination with other spices and vegetables.

Diabetes management: Studies show that regular intake of fenugreek seeds can keep blood sugar levels under check. These seeds are rich in dietary fibre, a major contributor to lower glucose levels. This is especially beneficial to non-insulin dependent diabetics.

Lactation: Fenugreek is an herbal galactagogue (a substance that boosts milk production). For centuries in India, fenugreek seeds have been given to lactating mothers to increase breast milk production.

Healthy heart: Regular consumption of fenugreek seeds helps lower bad cholesterol and triglycerides (fat found in the blood). Since fenugreek seeds keep cholesterol and diabetes under check, it helps lower risk of cardiovascular disease.

Anti-viral properties: Fenugreek seeds can help stave off viruses that cause colds and sore throat. It also helps alleviate symptoms of both.

Anti-oxidant properties: Fenugreek seeds are loaded with antioxdiants that help fight free radicals, thus protecting cells from damage. This can even help check cancer.

Alleviates PMS and menopause symptoms: Fenugreek is claimed to help lessen the effect of hot flashes and mood fluctuations, common symptoms of menopause and PMS. Intake of fenugreek seeds also help regularise menstruation cycles.

Aids digestion: Add a handful of sprouted fenugreek to yoghurt to treat diarrhoea, gas and flatulence.

Skin and hair: A paste made of ground fenugreek and water is a common home remedy to treat pimples, burns and even eczema. Mixing fenugreek paste in coconut oil or applying as it is makes for an excellent conditioner for your hair and scalp.

In the US, fenugreek leaves and seeds are available in Indian grocery stores. The seeds are available whole, crushed, or powdered. Dried fenugreek leaves, called kasuri methi are also sold whole or powdered and are used when fresh leaves are not available or when you want to use them just for flavoring.

Prevention of food poisoning

Prevention of food poisoning

[A]Food hygiene

(1) Purchase of food
Select fresh meat and vegetable.
Purchase food from hygienic, reliable and reputable sources to ensure quality.
Do not patronise unlicensed hawkers or food stalls selling cooked food.
Read and follow the storage instructions, and pay attention to the "use by" or "best before" date on food labels when buying prepacked food.
Do not buy any food that is abnormal in appearance, for example: canned food in rusty, expanded or dented cans.

(2) Handling of food
Food should be thoroughly washed before storage or cooking. Meat and seafood must be thoroughly cooked.
Food should be consumed as soon as it is served. Hot food should be eaten when it is still hot and cold dishes should be stored in the refrigerator until consumption.
Use different sets of chopping blocks and knives for cutting raw and cooked food.

(3) Storage of food
Raw and cooked food should be stored separately to avoid cross contamination. Place cooked food  in the upper compartment of refrigerator.
Cooked food, unless consumed at once, should be kept below 4oC or above 63oC. Do not store food under room temperature to avoid multiplication of bacteria.
Leftover food should be stored in  the refrigerator and re-heated thoroughly before consumption.
Refrigerator should be cleaned  properly and regularly and its temperature should be kept below 4oC.
Do not store excessive  amount of food in the refrigerator to avoid affecting cold air circulation.

[B] Personal hygiene
Wash hands with soap and water after going to the toilet and before handling food.
Anybody who suffers from diarrhoea or vomiting should not handle or touch any food to
avoid bacteria contaminating the food.
Bandage wounds with waterproof plasters before handling any food.

[C] Environmental hygiene
Put all rubbish & food remains into a dustbin and cover it up tightly.
Dustbin must be emptied frequently and regularly.
Clean the kitchen frequently and regularly  to prevent harbouring rats and insects.

Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Type 2 Diabetes

Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Type 2 Diabetes

As one gets older, type 2 diabetes is more likely if one is overweight or has high blood pressure (hypertension), elevated blood lipids, and a sedentary lifestyle.

What Is Type 2 Diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease of carbohydrate metabolism whose hallmark is high blood sugar. Type 1 diabetes reflects lack of insulin, the hormone that controls blood sugar.  In type 2 diabetes, which is much more common than type 1, insulin is present, but it functions improperly. As a result, blood sugar levels rise. Common symptoms of diabetes are frequent urination, frequent thirst, and weight loss. However, warning signs may occur before the disease is diagnosed.

High blood sugar reflects insulin resistance. This means the hormone insulin is less effective in assisting the uptake of sugar and fatty acids into tissues. As a result both sugar and fatty acid levels in blood rise. To compensate, the pancreas makes more insulin in an effort to clear the blood sugar. The liver takes up the fatty acids and returns them to the blood as fat hitched to proteins. These are measured clinically as VLDL lipoproteins. In diabetes, VLDL levels are markedly increased, thereby increasing the likelihood of heart disease. As diabetes progresses, the pancreas loses its ability to produce insulin. This leads to deterioration in other tissues and the development of circulatory problems, hypertension, kidney disease, impaired regulation of blood clotting, retinopathy, and above all heart disease. Treatment with drugs, diet, weight loss, and exercise can retard and possibly halt this chain of events.

1. Lifestyle intervention means weight loss, regular exercise, and healthful eating habits. Losing weight reduces the chance of developing diabetes, slows its progression, and improves glucose control. The more weight you lose, the better. Even modest weight loss  short of reaching your ideal weight  brings substantial improvement.

2. Regular exercise counteracts many of the detrimental effects of insulin resistance. It improves glucose control and blood lipid levels, increases blood flow and vascular function, boosts fitness, reduces risk of heart disease, and can ease weight loss. Caution: everyone’s health condition and risk differs, so if you have diabetes or heart disease, have your physician determine the appropriate level, type, and
frequency of exercise.

3. Diet modification is a frontline strategy for controlling diabetes. Traditionally, the diabetic diet emphasized sugar restriction. Modern dietary recommendations recognize that the total amount of carbohydrate is more important than the type of carbohydrate. The key is moderate carbohydrate intake from whole grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables. These foods generally have the lowest glycemic index.

4. Foods high in saturated fats include dairy fats butter, most cheese, and whole milk most animal fats, hard margarines, shortening, and coconut and palm oils. Trans fatty acids also aid the development of heart disease. Trans fatty acids occur in the manufacture of solid fats such as margarine and shortening. Many commercial and restaurant prepared fried and baked foods have high proportions of saturated and trans fatty acids. Restricting the consumption of saturated and trans fats improves blood lipid levels and may slow the progression of diabetes.

5. Omega-3 fatty acids, found mainly in fat-rich fish such as salmon, rainbow trout, mackerel, and sardines confer health benefits not found in other foods. “Omega-3s” from fish are highly polyunsaturated fatty acids that lower triglycerides, reduce abnormal heart rhythms, reduce blood pressure by small but significant amounts, and improve blood clotting regulation. Omega-3s may also boost the effectiveness of statins, drugs widely prescribed to lower blood LDL cholesterol levels.

Thus, people with diabetes who eat rich fish on a regular basis can boost the benefits of weight loss in improving glucose control and blood pressure.  Eating fatty fish regularly is an important strategy to improve health in diabetes.

Heart Healthy Benefits of Dark Chocolate

Heart Healthy Benefits of Dark Chocolate
While cocoa beans were once used as a form of currency and an offering to the Gods in ancient civilizations, cocoa powder and the chocolate products made from cocoa beans are now a generally recognized treat by many. Cocoa powder and chocolate are made from the seeds of the fruit of the  Theobroma cacao tree. Cocoa was first consumed more than 2,000 years ago by the Olmec, Mayan and Aztec cultures as a bitter drink .
Dark chocolate is healthier for us than once thought. Dark chocolate comes from the Theobroma cacao plant, a rich source of flavonoids. Flavonoids are powerful antioxidants, also found in fruits and vegetables, linked with a reduction in heart attack and cancer risk. In addition, they help maintain strong bones, teeth, and healthy skin.

1. Dark chocolate is beneficial for health, but milk chocolate and white chocolate are not. The milk content in milk chocolate blocks the antioxidant effects of chocolate and white chocolate is missing the main plant chemical that is beneficial for health.

2. Dark chocolate is generally lower in calories than milk chocolate because of its lower sugar content.

3. Dark chocolate contains plant chemicals called flavonoids which are known to lower blood pressure, increase antioxidant activity, improve cholesterol levels and improve coronary artery function. Dark chocolate and cocoa are also associated with reduced risk for heart attacks, strokes, and death from heart disease.

4. Flavonoids are present in many healthy foods, but dark chocolate is one of the richest sources. Flavonoids found in chocolate are said to act like aspirin in the way they prevent blood clotting that can lead to heart attacks and strokes.

5. Dark chocolate is also known to be high in anti-oxidants. Two tablespoons of dark chocolate have more anti-oxidants than four cups of green tea.

6.  A 1-oz square of dark chocolate a day is healthy. More than that can promote weight gain which can offset cardiovascular benefits.

7. Look for dark chocolate that has 70% or higher cocoa content and lists cocoa or chocolate liquor as the first ingredient, not sugar.

8.  Dark chocolate also has been shown to improve mood. Unlike caffeine, also found in chocolate, which has a strong immediate effect and increases awareness, theobromine is a mild lasting stimulant in cocoa with a mood-improving effect.

9. While dark chocolate has numerous health benefits, it also has a lot of calories; most chocolate bars are high in saturated fat so, remember, moderation. Dark chocolate does not replace healthy food choices so eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, lean meats such as poultry and pork, dried beans, and whole grains. Check recipes carefully; the beneficial effects of cocoa do not offset the high fat and sugar content in some recipes so choose carefully or modify. Semi-sweet chocolate chips and mini-sized dark chocolate bars work well in recipes.

10. Insulin resistance results in impaired endothelial function and and thereby contributes to cardiovascular disease in patients with diabetes.  Several studies have now shown that prolonged consumption of dark chocolate or cocoa improves insulin sensitivity in both healthy and insulin-resistant individuals.

"7 Destructive Habits of Highly UNsuccessful People"

"7 Destructive Habits of Highly UNsuccessful People"

1. They get "Hung" by their own "Tongue"
a. Are you thinking from lack or scarcity?
b. Disempowering thoughts turn into disempowering language.
c. When you look at an opportunity, are the first things you see roadblocks? Conversion of positive into negatives and your language reflects that.

2. They are Chronic Complainers
a. These are people who complain that the sun is hot.No matter what happens, it is always about how it could have been better.
b. Present an opportunity that something will change their life, and the response is that you are money hungry. And the very same day they will complain that they do not have enough money.

3. They are Unrationally Paranoid
a. They think that everyone and everything is against them.
b. Mistakes cause depression instead understanding the greatness of the learning process. They become discouraged easily.
c. They regard failures as catastrophes.
d. Fear runs their lives...they rather stay in their "known zone" than expand it. Thus, their comfort zones become their failure zones.

4. They are Blabber Mouths
a. They talk much more than they listen.
b. They want to be "the issue"...the star of the show.
c. When others advise them, they tend not to listen because they don't like their mistakes acknowledged...or are not so willing to grow. This type of "pride" typically keeps them broke, busted and disgusted.
d. In their mind, they are always correct.

5. They are Miserable and They are Looking for "Company"
a. In other words, they try to bring other people down to their level.
b. People who are Consistently Unsuccessful and are deciding to stay that way (either intentionally or unconsciously) envy successful people.
c. Instead of learning from successful people, or putting in the "smart" and "hard" work that successful people have put in, they find it easier to criticize, despise, spread rumors about those successful ones.
d. What could they do instead?
Think of all the habits you have that do not serve you...Now, what habits can you switch them out for? Successful people change, and work for change all the time.

6. They are "Wimps"
a. They are always seeking the "magical" instant "pill" that will relieve them of having to actually experience "Life in the Jungle" in an effort to make it their very own "Land of Paradise."
b. They would rather take the wide road to lessor rewards than the narrow road to great rewards.
c. They don't want any hardships. They simply want to get healthy wealthy and wise without "fighting" for it. If only they would fight for it they would be more likely to get the "title."

7. They Give up Easily
a. Successful people look at failures as stepping stones to success. Temporary setbacks tend to stop unsuccessful people in their tracks.
b. They jump in very excited and then their excitement falls off with a few "No's" and they lose interest when it looks so much harder.
c. Then they go search for a new opportunity that would be much "easier." But guess what? The next one isn't any easier; they typically get stuck over the same issue...themselves.So, how do you join the ranks of those who have made it to the "Land of Paradise?"
CHANGE...look at these 7 Habits and never engage in them. Look at Stephen Covey's 7 Habits, and live them. You will be incredibly successful in your life!

“7 Habits of Highly Successful People"
1. Be Proactive
2. Begin With the End in Mind
3. Put First Things First
4. Think Win/Win
5. Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
6. Synergize
7. Sharpen the Saw

Health Benefits of Oats

Health Benefits of Oats
Oats is a species of cereal grain grown for its seed. High in fibre, while oats are primarily used as livestock feed, it is suitable for human consumption in the form of oatmeal and rolled oats. This grain gains its distinctive flavour from the roasting process it undergoes after it’s harvested and cleaned. This process, however, does not strip it off its fibre and other nutrients.

Oats are high in magnesium, calcium, phosphorous, selenium, magnesium and zinc. It’s a good source of carbohydrates and proteins; in addition it is high in dietary fibre content and is also low fat.

1. Blood Sugars
Eating oats can spread the rise in blood sugars over a longer time period. Control of blood glucose and insulin levels is essential in preventing many of the complications associated with diabetes. Oat beta-glucan slows the rise in blood glucose levels following a meal and delays its decline to pre-meal levels. Here's how it works. As the beta-glucan in the soluble fiber of oats is digested, it forms a gel, which causes the viscosity of the contents of the stomach and small intestine to be increased. This in turn slows down digestion and prolongs the absorption of carbohydrates into the bloodstream. This means dramatic changes in blood sugar levels are avoided.

2. Anti Cancer
Oats, like other grains and vegetables, contain hundreds of phytochemicals. Many phytochemicals are thought to reduce a person's risk of getting cancer. Phytoestrogen compounds, called lignans, in oats have been linked to decreased risk of hormone-related diseases such as breast cancer. Most of the research has been focused on breast cancer, but similar effects are expected on other hormone-related cancers such as prostate, endometrial and ovarian cancer. International research has shown that women with a higher intake of dietary fiber have lower circulating estrogen levels, a factor associated with a lower risk of breast cancer. The insoluble fibers in oats are also thought to reduce carcinogens in the gastrointestinal tract.

3. Blood Pressure
A daily serving of whole oats rich in soluble fiber can reduce hypertension, or high blood pressure, and so reduce the need for anti-hypertensive medication. Nearly 1 in 3 American adults has high blood pressure. It usually has no symptoms, but can cause serious problems with the heart and blood vessels, leading to other complications.

4. Bowel Function
Oats have high fiber content. Fiber is necessary in keeping bowel movements regular. Oats are high in both soluble and insoluble fiber. Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water. It is spongy and absorbs many times its own weight of liquid. It makes stools heavier and speeds their passage through the gut, relieving constipation.

5. Weight Control
As the soluble fiber of oats is digested, it forms a gel, which causes the viscosity of the contents of the stomach and small intestine to be increased. The gel delays stomach emptying making you feel full longer which helps with weight loss. New research suggests that children between ages 2-18 years old who have a constant intake of oatmeal lowered their risk of obesity. The research found that the children who ate oatmeal were 50% less likely to become overweight, when compared to those children that did not eat it.

6. Athletic Performance
Oats, like other cereal grains, are valued primarily as a source of carbohydrates which provide calories for energy needs. Oats have been shown in scientific studies to favorably alter metabolism and enhance performance when ingested 45 minutes to 1 hour before exercise of moderate intensity.

7. General Health and Longevity
Oats have a higher concentration of well-balanced protein than other cereals. Oats contain phytochemicals (plant chemicals) which have been associated with protection from chronic disease such as cancer. They contain a good balance of essential fatty acids, which have been linked with longevity and general good health, and also have one of the best amino acid profiles of any grain. Amino acids are essential proteins that help facilitate optimum functioning of the body. Oats are a good source of essential vitamins such as thiamin, folic acid, biotin, pantothenic acid and vitamin E. They also contain zinc, selenium, copper, iron, manganese and magnesium. Oat beta-glucan also appears to help speed up response to infection, which may result in faster healing. According to a new study, it was discovered that beta glucan can enhance the ability of certain human immune cells to navigate to the site of a bacterial infection, resulting in faster healing.

Health Benefits of Massage

Health Benefits of Massage
Massage is an excellent form of passive exercise. The word is derived from the Greek word ‘massier’ which means to knead. It involves the scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body. If correctly done on a bare body, it can be highly stimulating and invigorating.

As far back as 400 B.C.the great Hippocrates, the father of medicine, employed massage and manipulation in healing his patients. Since then it has been used as a mode of treatment for many ailments and it has restored many a sufferer to health and vigour.
Benefits
The general massage, dealing with all parts of the body, is highly beneficial in many ways. It tones up the nervous system, influences respiration and quickens the elimination of poisons and waste material from the body through the various eliminative organs such as the lungs, skin, kidneys and bowels. It also boosts blood circulation and metabolic processes. A massage removes facial wrinkles , helps to fill out hollow cheeks and neck and eases stiffness, sore muscles and numbness

DISEASES OF THE EAR

DISEASES OF THE EAR
EARACHE, DEAFNESS, INFECTION AND SOFTENING OF THE WAX

Pain in the ears is usually caused due to

Impacted wax;
Entry of some foreign body into the ear;
Due to an infection in the ear, nose or throat;

HOME REMEDIES

WARNING: Do not put any ear drops in the ear (allopathic, homoeopathic or home remedies mentioned below), if the ear drum is ruptured as this can cause severe complications.

Apricot-Oil of apricot seeds is very effective in treating earache. Put 2-3 drops of oil in the ear that is paining. Earache will stop.

Betel leaf (pan)-The juice of fresh betel leaves is extracted and 2-3 drops are put in the painful ear to relieve earache.

Bitter gourd (karela)-Cut two karelas lengthwise in small pieces and boil them in mustard oil till the pieces turn into ash or black. Strain the oil and store in a bottle. Put 2-3 drops in the ears daily. Do this for a few weeks. The hearing will improve.

Bottle gourd (lauki)-Take the stalk of bottle gourd, crush it and extract the juice. Put 2-3 drops of this in the painful ear. The earache will stop immediately.

Breast milk-Instilling a few drops of breast milk is considered the best treatment in small children to treat mild earache.

Castor oil-A few drops of warm castor oil (arandi) or honey can be put in the ear to treat earache.

Clove (laung / lavang) -Heat 2-3 cloves in two teaspoonfuls of sesame oil. Then put a few drops of this warm oil in the painful ear. This will cure earache.

Garlic-Crush 2-3 cloves of garlic and heat them in some sesame oil or coconut oil till they turn brown. Do not use groundnut oil. Cool and strain. Put 2-3 drops of this oil in the painful ear. The earache will be cured. This will also benefit if there is pus oozing out from the ears. It also helps treat atonic deafness.

To treat earache and discharge from the ear arising from middle ear infection, take a few cloves of garlic and crush them.

Ghee-Boil ghee and camphor (kapoor) and store it in a bottle. Whenever there is earache, warm it and put 2-3 drops in the painful ear with the help of a clean dropper. This will cure the earache.

Ginger-Freshly extracted ginger juice, about one tablespoonful, with an addition of a pinch of rock salt is filtered and then used as ear drops (2-3 drops) to relieve earache and inflammation.

Holy basil (tulsi). Put 2-3 drops of juice of fresh tulsi leaves in the ear that is paining. Warm the juice slightly before putting it in the ear. This will bring relief to the earache and also cure any mild ear infection.

Honey-Honey is highly beneficial in the treatment of middle ear infection or infection of Otitis Media. This disease is characterized by infection of the ear leading to pus discharge through perforated eardrum. Put 2-3 drops of honey in the infected ear. This will drain out the pus and will help the ear to heal fast.

Linseed oil (alsi ka tel). If the ears are paining, put 2-3 drops of linseed oil in the ears with the help of a dropper. The earache will be cured.

Margosa (neem-bitter)-Margosa leaves are known to possess pain killing property and steam fomentation of neem decoction brings quick relief to earache.

Mint (pudina)-Put 2-3 drops of juice of mint leaves in the ears to cure any sort of ear infection.

Olive oil-Warm a little Verbascum or olive oil and put 2-3 drops in the painful ear, this will help ease the pain and  also  soften the wax and aid its easy removal.

Onion-Take some raw onion juice and warm it. Put 2-3 drops in the ear that is paining.  Do this twice a day.  This will relieve the earache and also cure any sort of ear infection or ear inflammation.  It is also beneficial if there is pus in the ears.  It also loosens the wax in the ears, which can then be easily removed.

Poppy seeds (khus khus)-To treat inflammation of the ears, apply a paste of poppy seeds around the painful ear. It will bring relief.

Radish (mooli) -Mix the juice of radish leaves with sesame oil in equal quantities. Boil this mixture till only the oil is left in the pan. Cool it, filter it and store it in a glass bottle. Whenever there is pain in the ears, put 2-3 drops in the painful ear after warming it slightly. The earache will be cured.

Sesame oil (til ka tel)-Warm some sesame oil alongwith a couple of garlic cloves and put 2-3 drops in the ears. This will soften the wax in the ears, which can then be easily cleaned. This is also beneficial in treating earache.

Drink a lot of water and increase the intake of dates, figs (anjeer) and fresh fruit juices. All these items should be put together.
